Decorex JHB, the leading dcor, design and lifestyle exhibition, will be celebrating 25 years of connecting people with the latest trends, styles, textiles and furniture at this years #rhythmoflife show.

It has been an incredible year for dcor and design and we are so excited to be celebrating these beautiful trends while looking forward to 2018s inspiration with the 25th Decorex Joburg, Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director: Design, Lifestyle and Retail Exhibitions at Reed Exhibitions. This show is a culmination of both regionally and globally-inspired designs that draw on more than two decades of industry knowledge fused into the best that current dcor trends have to offer. It will be an overwhelmingly vibrant show fuelled with gifted creativity.

I attended the media launch for #decorexjhb18 and we were enlightened with what you can expect to see at this years show, and might I just add that I’m super excited. How cute are these photo booth pics we got to take!

The theme was developed by our lifestyles that inspire the trends. Anita Bloom,Decorex SAs Creative Director gave us a look into the theme of this years show as well as some of the top trends we can expect to see.

“The give and take of modern life keeps us on our toes, the push and pulls of work and play, the tension between public image and private self. Our inner sense of health, prosperity and happiness is constantly put to test. While the prospect of revival, replenishment and relieve promises harmony. The many layers of our lifestyles, demographic change, digitization and the responsible attitude towards the environment makes it necessary for individual desire of living spaces. This demands new solutions for the future. We constantly create spaces around us that allow us to find the inner peace, and escape the demands of our life. The use of colour helps us to survive the busy city life, the contrast you need to surround ourselves with nature and that final desire to create a relaxed surrounding of slow living.”

Decorex want each visitor attending the show to be able to find their own unique rhythm and interpret that into their own spaces.

The Swedish lifestyle trend Hygge, has popped up in a few conversations this year although still very trendy, another Swedish lifestyle trend, Lagom is making it’s appearance more often. What is the difference you might ask: Hygge focuses more on a feeling of comfort and coziness where Lagom is more an ethos of moderation.

Another new lifestyle trend I love is Wabi Sabi, not to mistaken with your sushi paste! Wabi Sabi isa Japanese inspired trend , embracing the beauty of imperfection.

You will have to visit the show to see, look for the trend alert boards all over the halls to see all the new, exiting and even some oldies sticking around.

Claire Bond, from Plascon, chatted to us about how the meridians in our body {energy channels ‘transporting’ life energythroughout the body} need colour and how different colours influences every stage of our life. I’m so happy that the effect colour has on our psyche is becoming a more popular discussion, this is a topic that I am very passionate about.

Sofiso Shange gave us an overview of his gorgeous furniture line inspired by colour as well as some of the most influential people in his life.

To view these and many more #rhythmoflife milestone dcor, design and lifestyle features and products, get to Decorex Joburg for the 25th installation.

A monochrome nursery is always a winner and currently one of the most popular schemes for nurseries and even toddler rooms. It has become the go to scheme for gender neutral nursery themes for parents, and it is a great way of incorporating high contrast stimulation for promoting that teeny baby’s visual development. LittleME dangles are perfect for this.

Texture and pattern will ensure that an monochromatic interior does not look bland and become monotonous. Depending on your degree of harmony that you wish to see in the room you will use more or less pattern or print in the room but textures can be layered to create coziness and add elegance to any room.

Bellow see some monochrome nursery inspiration from the latest LittleME decor product shoot. We opted for a less layer look to get a clean and crisp look.

I’m currently busy doing a playroom that will need to accomodate a 4 year old, a 7 year old and occasionally older as well as younger kids.

This huge age group has definite changes in furniture needs so I opted to look at bigger furniture than the average toddler furniture available as this sized furniture is not suitable for older kids.

The easiest way to check if a chair is the correct hight for your child is for them to sit on it. Their feet should touch the floor with their knees bent at 90 degrees. A table should be about 20 cm above the chair height, this gap gets slightly bigger the older the child gets.

Choosing the correct sized furniture will ensure longer use, as well as a better overall fit and ergonomics for your child.

Mom, Michelle, owner and maker of Mayalief has transformed Amelia’s bedroom into a Pinterest worthy bedroom while also incorporating some lovely local talent in the room. Michelle is such an inspirational mom-boss-maker! She pours her heart into everything that she makes and designs, and it shows in all the details of each product. Earlier this year I was extremely fortunate to work with her and some other amazing bloggers on her Love More campaign , a range of t-shirtsreminding everyone to have love and respect for all our fellow humans! .

Michelle’s detailed and careful planning can be seen in this vibrant floral nursery. The cheerful colours adds a charming yet whimsy touch to the room.

This playroom shown bellow, by Petite Interiors in Australia, has been a long time Pinterest lust of mine and one of the main inspiration behind this room.

I love how Michelle has incorporated her own brand into the room, it adds a special touch of herself to this room but also allows her to do mini shoots of her range in the space. The floral design of the mural allows for Amelia to grow into the room and Michelle will be able to use this room for many years to come.

*Rainbow Wall Decor *Wood Wall Hooks *Not an official Mayalief product (yet) but the storage bag for the crib is so gorgeous and such a handy item to have.

I’m a little flamingo obsessed this week. It is my daughter’s 7th birthday next week and I’m all flamingo and glittered up and in full party prep mode. While looking for some party decor I kept on being distracted by the gorgeous room decor that jumped up onto my screen. So I thought I will share some inspiration with you.

The beauty of this theme is that you can use flamingos in a very fun, tropical room setting as well as in a very subtle and elegant setting. I love it either way.

I better get back to party planning and stop swooning over these rooms!! See our styled room reveal from The Collaborative SA’s BoHo Flamingo style session HERE
